Dead By Sunset (1995) Ken Olin , Annette O'Toole 2-disc miniseries true-crime
The terrifying true story comes vividly to life in this exceptionally well-made 2-part TV-movie. To all outward appearances, Brad Cunningham (Ken Olin) seemed to be a successful investment banker devoted to his lawyer wife Cheryl (Annette O'Toole)and their 3 young boys. When He is introduced by a mutual friend to surgeon Sara Gordon (Lindsay Frost) she is immediately drawn to him, as he apparently is to her. On the pretext of winning her support for a project involving play facilities for disadvantaged children, he first presents himself to her her with inappropriate gifts such as flowers. intimate apparel and an expensive necklace while seemingly hesitantly revealing disturbing details about his difficult life with his wife, whom he portrays as loose, distant and selfish, as well as a horrible influence on his sons from a previous marriage whom she punishes by severe methods. Sara is persuaded by his sorry stories and begins a relationship with him against her initial better judgment. We soon see that life with Cheryl is not exactly as he portrays it to Sara, and that it is he that is the emotional torturer and philanderer. We know from the opening scene that Brad ends up murdering Cheryl by bludgeoning her 27 times with a tire iron in her car at a deserted service station to which he has lured her to supposedly give the boys to her, so it's no secret that I'm revealing here. We already know at the outset that his relationship with Cheryl is not exactly a healthy one, notr one what is playing out as Brad depicts it with Sara. He even tricks Cheryl into dressing provocatively to supposedly meet him at a biker bar, only to drop by there with Sara and feign distress on seeing her there as they are "asccidentally" riving by. Also, Brad has apparently concocted a story about some Texas money people whose investment in his hands has soured and that they are they types who will come after him. We never learn the veracity of this story and never do find out if these unseen thugs even exist.

When Cheryl is ultimately murdered, Brad has a supposedly airtight alibi involving his sons who are staying with him during a joint custody visit while they are in the process of divorce. Cheryl's lawyer friend at her firm Mike Shinn(John Terry)is convinced Brad murdered her, as is Cheryl's younger sister Susan (Sally Murphy) and their mother. However, a trial finds Brad innocent. Mike is determined to find out for sure and to pursue the matter on his own.

Two years later, Sara is living with Brad and the 3 boys and begins experiencing the same emotionally torturous and degrading behavior Brad levied against Chertyl, though Susan had long ago warned her she hadn't seen the "real" Brad but eventually would. Brad has in the interim left the investment firm (Cheryl had discovered financial improprieties and faxed proof to the FBI, which launched a raid on his firm, so he sort of had no choice) and is trying to open a bakery, financed like everything else in his life these days by Cheryl. He has "forgotten" the plans for Sara's Birthday dinner with the boys, but she shows up at the bakery and catches him in "coitus flagrante" with one of his female employees. So when Mike approaches her to help him find out about Brad, she hesitantly agrees to participate. Though Brad's been tried for murder and found innocent already, he can't be tried on that charge again under law, but CAN be tried in a civil suit. Sara learns many disturbing facts about Brad's past which I won't reveal here because it will spoil the "fun" if you haven't seen this film, but upon meeting Brad's father and stepmother she soon learns where Brad has gotten his misogynistic leanings. It seems Brad's real problem is the same as his father's...they hate women.

The 2-disc region-free (playable worldwide) DVD set come to you in a slim double-DVD case with full artwork shown.

International (outside U.S.)orders are always welcome, and I used to send these Priority Mail for an additional fee, however as postal rates at my end have skyrocketed of late making that option unaffordable I can only offer First Class "small packet" service, which frankly has its risks, the biggest of which is the lack of tracking available, so PLEASE BE SURE YOUR MAILING ADDRESS IS COMPLETE AND ACCURATE PRIOR TO ORDERING in order to minimize the chance of non-delivery as these items are not returned to me if they cannot be delivered for any reason.

I accept personal or cashiers checks and money orders from U.S. buyers and PayPal from everyone in the whole wide world.

Thanks for looking and please feel free to message me with any questions.
